FNRC Art Exhibits
Periodically, FNRC (in cooperation with other agencies) presents art exhibitions featuring the work of our consumers. Exhibits usually feature an opening reception with the artists. Photos from the opening events are posted on our website and you can view them at: Art Exhibits.

 

Ready, Willing, & Able - Disaster Preparedness and Response Course on Meeting the Needs of Persons with Disabilities

The Public Health Foundation is offering a free Internet course for health professionals who may work with people with disabilities in times of disaster. The course has twelve objectives focusing on the needs of, and communicating with, individuals with disabilities. The course also has a component requiring creative problem solving in responding to possible scenarios a person may face when assisting people with disabilities during an emergency.

This is a two hour course sponsored by the University of Kansas Research and Training Center on Independent Living and the Kansas Department of Health Education. The course is available at:

My Voice Counts Too!
The Cedars Sinai Hospital, Department of Psychiatric and Behavioral Neurosciences will be hosting an informational conference on self-advocacy, titled "My Voice Counts Too", at the end of June this year. The mission of this conference is to empower people with developmental disabilities to advocate for themselves and make their voice heard. We are looking for twenty-five motivated and talented individuals between the ages of fourteen and twenty-one, looking to grow and improve their self-advocacy skills to attend the conference, all expenses paid.

Eligibility for the conference will include the following:

  • Exhibits leadership while working well with others
  • Interested in developing a broader knowledge of community and government issues
  • Available for telephone conferences
  • Ability to travel and availability to attend the conference in Sacramento June 21 through June 25, 2008

All prospective participants should complete the application form and submit it to Norma Delgado by email at normad@westsiderc.org or fax (310) 338-0834.
