Artist's Statement
BJ has been painting and drawing for over 30 years. A prolific
artist BJ works in various mediums including watercolor, markers
and mostly in acrylics. Mainly using her left foot with a
paintbrush attached. BJ uses art to express herself and to get
through her pain with cerebral palsy. She loves to paint
sunrises, flowers, and the ocean. Her impressionist paintings
such as dancing flowers reflect such joy, movement and color.
In this exhibit Past, Present and Looking to the Future, BJ is
exhibiting artwork going back over 13 years including brand new
pieces made for this exhibit. Some of the works have
statements that express BJ’s feelings at the time.
In 2006 BJ’s art exhibited at the de Young Museum in San Francisco, she also won first prize at the Shasta County Fair and was featured in a article by the Record Searchlight. BJ is a founding member of the group ArtFirst. ArtFirst will have their first group exhibition in June 2007 in the lobby of the new city hall in Redding. |
