Far Northern Regional Center (FNRC) is pleased to announce that we are marketing a new program called Calling All Senior Heroes (C.A.S.H.) on behalf of our community workforce partners. Our supported employment providers are experiencing long wait lists for individuals seeking paid internship or competitive integrated employment in the community. In order to place individuals, they need job coaches to work with and support them in their place of employment. The C.A.S.H. campaign focuses on “seniors” to assist our job development agencies in hiring additional job coaches to fill the growing needs of clients seeking to work in the communities where they live.
Effective January 1, 2014, California enacted Assembly Bill 1041 stating “it is the policy of the State of California that opportunities for integrated, competitive employment shall be given the highest priority for working age individuals with developmental disabilities, regardless of the severity of their disabilities.”
FNRC’s job development agencies are working hard to expand all community based employment. Staff shortages continue to be an issue throughout our state making it difficult for our job development agencies to attract, hire and retain job coaches.
Currently seniors are an untapped resource and many of them are looking for employment to bring them back into the workforce. Seniors life and work experiences make them knowledgeable, reliable, and great candidates for providing job coaching. In addition, many of them only want to work a part-time flexible schedule which meets the needs of our job development partners.
FNRC staff developed a marketing campaign and materials, held focus groups, and met with job development agency staff to receive input and recommendations. FNRC will be directly marketing to seniors by placing brochures in various locations that serve seniors throughout our catchment area. We have also placed a link on Far Northern’s website under the “Provider” section with the heading of “Provider’s Jobs”. FNRC appreciates our job development agencies and the important role they have in helping FNRC to carry out California’s Employment First Policy. For additional information please call (530) 222-4791 and ask for the “Employment Specialist”.
