Supporting the Independent Living Skills of Consumers with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Developmental Disabilities (DD)

Guest Speakers: Kandis Lighthall, retired Autism Program Specialist from Shasta County SELPA and Patty Schetter, Behavioral Analyst from CEDD at the MIND Institute
This workshop will address the skill deficits associated with organizational skills (Executive Functions) that may impact a consumer’s ability to keep track of and organize their time, space and items in their work and home. Practical strategies for how to support these areas of need will be covered.
Participants will:
Better understand the deficits associated with executive functions that are commons for individuals with ASD/DD.
Be able to implement simple, practical strategies for supporting consumers with cleaning/sorting, managing their personal space and daily activities.
Who should attend:
ILS, SLS, and residential providers
Family members and friends who are in a supportive role
Other providers who may need additional information about executive functioning and strategies to support individuals with these skills deficits.
Time: 8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Registration; 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Workshop
