REDDING, Calif. — What began as a vision to provide safe, affordable housing for individuals in need has become a reality with The PiperWay Project, a newly constructed apartment complex in West Redding. Designed to offer accessible housing options, the project is now in its final stages of occupancy.
“The PiperWay Project was born out of a critical need for housing solutions that cater to low-income individuals, particularly those who require accessibility and supportive services,” said Kao Saechao, a key figure in the initiative. “It’s about more than just housing—it’s about community, stability, and independence.”
The project was developed through a collaborative effort between local housing advocates and support agencies, recognizing the increasing need for affordable and accessible housing in Redding. “We saw so many individuals struggling to find a place that met their needs, and we knew we had to take action,” Saechao explained. “This project took years of planning, securing funding, and working with the community to bring it to life.”
The project features one-bedroom units equipped with a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and modern amenities, including dishwashers, individual heating and cooling systems, and phone/data connections. An on-site manager will provide support, ensuring a safe and well-maintained living environment for residents. Small pets are also allowed, making the apartments an even more welcoming space.
Eligibility for residency includes being 62 years or older, with the possibility for younger individuals to qualify if their partner meets the age requirement. Additionally, prospective tenants must have HUD approval or be in the process of applying for it through the City of Redding’s portal.
As the final units become available, the urgency to find qualified residents grows. “EXCITING NEWS! WE STILL HAVE A FEW UNITS AVAILABLE!!!” said Tamra Panther, Associate Director. “Don’t let this opportunity slip by for our individuals. This is a beautiful, new construction apartment complex in West Redding, just across from the Holiday Market on Placer. The type of living space that seldom presents itself for our clients.”
Saechao emphasized the importance of securing the remaining spots for those who need them most. “We want to make sure these units go to the people they were intended for before they are opened to the general public.”
For those interested, names should be submitted immediately to Kao Saechao. Prospective tenants must already be on the HUD waitlist, have applied, or be willing to transfer their current HUD voucher to this new location.
The PiperWay Project stands as a beacon of hope, ensuring that safe and affordable housing remains accessible to those who need it most. As the final units are filled, the project moves one step closer to fulfilling its mission of providing independence and security to the Redding community.
